The first attempts at producing shark products date back to the mid-1950s. Amongst the most significant were the results achieved by Dr. B. Atassi from the Jules Bordet Institute in Brussels. Shark cartilage is recommended for all women due to its high content of calcium and phosphorous in a ratio of 2:1, as a supporting treatment during the period of menopause for the prevention of osteoporosis—the thinning of bones caused by hormonal decreases. It also acts in the prevention of tumours diseases. The active ingredients contained in cartilage contribute to limiting angiogenesis, which is the formation of vascular networks which nourish growths in healthy tissue. It also serves to strengthen the immunity system and is also a good preventative against disease. It is recognised as a supporting treatment for productivity in athletes. It significantly decreases muscular injuries, damage to tendons and joints. Shark cartilage contributes to easing inflammation and the slowing down of vasculurisation in the cartilage of human joints. The regular use of shark cartilage is recommended for cases of degenerative and rheumatoid arthritis.

Contraindications:                                                                 
Not suitable for pregnant women. Do not use after surgery or only after a broken bone is completely healed. Do not use after coronary thrombosis or in serious cases of angina (pectoris). Do not administer to children from the ages of 10 to 15, unless under the supervision of a physician. Use of shark cartilage should not replace the classic treatment of cancer operations, radiation treatment or chemotherapy. Shark cartilage does suitably complement classic treatment—removing side effects from chemotherapy (swelling, feelings of vertigo, etc.) Large intake may result in gas or vertigo. This can be counteracted by taking the cartilage immediately after eating.
